Project/Technology:
Methane Sensing Solutions for Oil & Gas
Status:
Under Development
Contractor:
Quanta3 More »
Funding Agency:
Environmental Defense Fund (EDF)
Program Area(s):
Damage Prevention and Mitigation -- Leak Detection
Project/Technology Description:
Laser Absorption Spectroscopy system that can perform continuous monitoring of a well-site. Sensor is ultra-precise, specific to methane, and does not require calibration. In field tests with StatOil and Shell following lab testing by SwRI in EDF Methane Detector Challenge.
Impact of Project/Technology on Technological Advancement to Gas Industry:
Low-cost ($1-2k target), low-power sensors (10W) can be used for stationary, handheld, and drone-mounted applications monitoring wellsites or other natural gas installations.
Applicable Metrics:
Increased Safety - Technology would reduce the time to detect and address leaks in natural gas infrastructure.
Reduced Operations Cost -
